Ragtime asks the vital question: who has access to the American dream? At the dawn of a new century, three distinctly American family tales are woven together in a story that confronts such timeless themes as class, prejudice, freedom, hope – and what it means to be an American, all elevated by an expansive and soaring musical score with music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Terence McNally’s adaptation of the E.L. Doctorow novel is performed by SFArtsED alumni, including Broadway veteran Rodney Earl Jackson Jr., members of the BATCO company, performers from the SFArtsED Players and young performers from SFArtsED Summer’s Broadway Bound program.
